Oracle Corporation and Korean Air
requested CA Advisors to participate in the implementation of Oracle e-business suite of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) applications at
Korean Air. In particular, the expertise of CA Advisors was needed in the
implementation of the Oracle’s leading and highly-advanced ERP application for MRO (maintenance, repair, overhaul), named cMRO
(Complex MRO), at the airline’s
Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) Division.
Jahan Alamzad, Managing Principal of CA Advisors, led this engagement. Jahan was primarily
based in Seoul for the first year of the implementation, and thereafter supported the implementation
from the U.S. until the cMRO successfully went live.
The key motivation of Oracle and Korean Air
to request CA Advisors to partake in this important implementation was our firm’s rCAMP
(Reliability-centered MRO Planning) technology that has been the essence of our AEMPS
(Advanced Engine Planning Systems) solution.
The cMRO implementation at
Korea Air has been a three-year effort, and the largest of its kind in the
aviation MRO space. In addition to maintaining the fleet of Korean Air, the
airline’s M&E Division is one of the largest third-party MRO providers of services
to commercial and military customers. The customers range from large commercial airlines, e.g., United Airlines,
to the United States Air Force and the Armed Forces
of the Republic of Korea.
Due to specific needs, Quality Assurance (QA) became the key focus area of our work. We designed and delivered a
new reliability system as an extension to the core
cMRO. In addition to QA, we
were engaged in every other M&E functional area, including Planning, Engineering, Execution, Materials
Management, and Costing.
The Oracle Application Implementation Methodology (AIM)
was strictly followed. As a result, the project progressed solidly and with disciplined, while all steps were completed according to
AIM’s requisites.
The project was launched by first examining all MRO business processes. Those “as-is” processes
were then reengineered to “to-be” business processes. Through a detailed integration control, the
applicability of the new processes was ensured along with suitability. The “to-be” processes
included all the business requirements that were separately generated and evaluated.
A comprehensive “map-and-gap” task then pursued, which weighted cMRO’s
existing offering against the “to-be” processes. Subsequently, the needed extensions and enhancements were identified, followed
by the solution design. The solutions were prioritized and submitted to the Oracle local and global development teams.
The later phases of the project made certain that the data integrity and system stability issues were
resolved. The system then went live successfully.
CA Advisors is pleased to have been a part of this successful implementation. It has been our pleasure
to partner with Oracle and Korean Air
for this exciting project.
