Maintenance program

Engines are maintained based on the Condition Monitoring program. Vital performance indicators are monitored in real time. If any of those indicators reaches its limit, the engine is removed, declared unserviceable, and sent to the shop (unscheduled removal) for restoring engine performance. Also, if any of the life-limited parts (LLPs) reaches it prescribed life limit, the engine is removed (scheduled removal) and is sent to the shop. Unscheduled removals are statistically random events, which in turn creates another significant layer of complexity in engine MRO. According to Aviation Week 2025 Commercial Aviation Fleet & MRO Forecast, between 2025 and 2034, of the projected $685 billion in engine maintenance, 81% will be for unscheduled removals and the remaining 19% associated with scheduled removals.
